UPDATE:Naramata fire contained

UPDATE–NARAMATA 8:30 p.m.–The Naramata Road fire is now 100 per cent contained.

The fire grew to 2.9 hectares at its largest.

Five personnel from B.C.’s Wildfire Management Branch and ten firefighters from local fire departments will remain on scene overnight.

Additional crews will be dispatched in the morning to continue with mop up.

UPDATE–NARAMATA 6 p.m.–The Naramata Road fire is now  2.5 hectares in size, but is 75 per cent contained.

Helicopters with buckets have now replaced tankers, which flanked the perimetre with retardant.

Four provincial  initial attack crews are on scene, along with local fire departments from Naramata, Penticton and Kaleden.

The main concern is a deep gully, with thicker timber and an abundance of dead pine needles to burn.

That’s where most of the smoke is coming from, and that’s where firefighting efforts are being concentrated.

NARAMATA —; The Naramata fire department and forestry officials are fighting a 1.5 hectare fire on Naramata Road at Languedoc Road which started at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Two air tankers and two initial attack crews are on scene. As of now there’s no word on how it started.

Forestry officials say there are no reports of the fire threatening any homes or structures.
